Ester Lee
Hi, I’m Ester, the Alumni Engagement Coordinator VISTA! I’ll be working with the membership and staff of the SHC to develop our alumni network and understand how the cooperative can use its status as a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization.
I lived in the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative for 4 years (2014-2018), during which I served on the Board as Corporate Treasurer and Secretary. After graduating with a B.A. in Linguistics, I decided to leverage my Treasurer experience and went into corporate accounting for 4 years.
Co-op land drew me back in, so I’m here in Michigan to develop an alumni program for the SHC. Housing cooperatives are inspirational spaces for collaboration, community, and connection to cool people. My hope is to foster a greater network for current and past members!

Howdy!
I’m happy to be here with the SHC working on defining, developing, and improving our maintenance processes! Most of what I’ve been working on has been more on the staff end, but hopefully you’ll start to see things improve with time. I’m also communicating with other housing co-op organizations to see how they do things, and reaching out to organizations in the Lansing-East Lansing area to develop partnerships with them specifically related to how we maintain our homes.
I fell in love with cooperation when living at Escher House in Ann Arbor from 2019 to 2022 while studying Industrial and Operations Engineering and Complex Systems, and I’m super excited to get to use those skills to serve the cooperative movement! When I’m not doing co-op stuff, I like to bike, bird, and think about knitting.
